Toddler rescued from locked car

A toddler was rescued from a car by a locksmith and the fire brigade yesterday after he was accidentally locked in by his mother, reported The Star Online.

The one-year-old toddler was trapped for 30 minutes after his mother stepped out of the car to try to cool down the rising temperature of the car engine by pouring water into the radiator.

She had left the key in the ignition and the auto-lock system was activated when the door was shut.

The incident occurred in the multi-storey car park of a block of flats in Paya Terubong at 1.45pm yesterday.

The boy was sweating profusely when he was rescued after a locksmith managed to unlock the front passenger door half an hour later.

Several residents came to help but were unable to free the boy, and eventually called a locksmith and the fire brigade.

A Paya Terubong fire station spokesman said they received a call for help at about 1.59pm.

“When we reached the scene, a locksmith was already at work to rescue the boy. We are glad that the car was unlocked within minutes,” he said. – March 14, 2016.
