The Setiakasih Residents' Association are unhappy over City Hall's handling of a high-rise condominium project in Bukit Damansara and say that they have had no updates on the current status of the project.
Association president Datuk Mustafa Ali said that City Hall had rejected an earlier plan by developers to build two 23-storey blocks of 94 condominium units.
"City Hall recommended six-storey condominiums instead, but we are still objecting to this as it is more than three storeys," he said in an interview with The Malaysian Insider.
The Malaysian Insider reported last month that residents of Bukit Damansara had urged City Hall to scrap the proposed development of a highrise luxury condominium in a locality occupied by bungalows.
Datuk Mustafa, representing the residents of Bukit Damansara, said that City Hall had not provided them with any more information recently.
He said that he had contacted City Hall's City Planning Department director Sahrom Ujang to enquire about the proposed development.
"Last week I called him, and they said they rejected the 23-storey condominiums, and they recommended a six storey condominiums. I said that that was not good enough, so I have written them a letter again, but they have not replied yet,” he said, adding that City Hall informed him that they had yet to contact the developer as of last week.
Datuk Seri Shaik Daud Ismail, a retired court judge who was also present at the interview, said that there was a similar case in 2003, but that the plans were scrapped by City Hall.
"In 2003, there was a developer that also wanted to build a six-storey condominium at Jalan Setiakasih 9 which the residents’ association rejected. The project was scrapped," he said.
The Setiakasih Residents' Association, established since the 1980s, has been keeping an eye on developers who are keen to develop the Bukit Damansara suburb.
According to the residents, Bukit Damansara was zoned for bungalows back in the 1970s, and are mostly for retired government servants.
"It's a luxurious condominium, and the price range is RM7 million to RM12 million, and they say they want to help pensioners, how is that even possible?" said Mustafa.
"If the developer accepts the six-storey plan and City Hall is also planning to go with it, we will meet them again, we are prepared to see the mayor, the minister and even the prime minister." – March 14, 2016.
