Ducati has taken the wraps off a one-off custom interpretation of its latest model, the Scrambler, which will be hitting the international bike show circuit this year.
Created by Italian design company Vibrazioni Art Design – a firm synonymous with applying traditional artisan metalworking techniques and craftsmanship to recycled scraps of metal, the result has more than a hint of the Mad Max aesthetic.
The standard fuel tank has been wrapped in rubber, which in turn has been laser etched to mimic a tire tread, and the stock handlebars ditched altogether in favor of a set from a Ducati Streetfighter instead.
However, the changes and the detailing run much deeper. The bike's frame has been shortened at the back and Vibrazioni Art Design has fashioned a new monocoque from hand-hammered metal sourced from discarded industrial waste bins.
To emphasize this rugged, industrial feel, the hand-hammered frame hasn't been media blasted or given a pretty finish. Instead the company opted for a clear coat of polyurethane.
Other big differences include custom shock absorbers, a custom exhaust silencer, hand-formed aluminum side panels and faring and a headlight housing milled from aluminum billet.
Perhaps the only thing that remains stock about the finished bike, other than the engine, are the tires, which are the same Pirellis as usual. However, even here they are wrapped around solid rims rather than spoked wheels.
As well as a great showcase for Vibrazioni Art Design's capabilities, the one-off commission is also designed to draw potential buyers' attention to the fact that the Ducati Scrambler is all about individual style.
Just as in the new car market, personal service and customization is expected to take on a greater and greater significance among bike buyers and is why the company offers the Scrambler in four different aesthetic configurations as standard, alongside a host of extra custom elements and even matching clothing and accessories.
The SC-Rumble will be hitting the road over the summer with an appearance planned at the ‘Wheels and Waves' show, which is being held in Biarritz, France, June 11 - 14. Other appearances are expected to be announced over the year. – AFP, May 24, 2015.
