These are month-long food bazaars where every Malaysian can sample the best of Malay, Indian, and Arabic cuisines prepared for the breaking of fast every day.

Having visited a slew of exciting bazaars in KL, the HungryGoWhere team ventured north to Penang where we found an equally boisterous and lively scene.

Here, we’ve shortlisted our favourite Penang Ramadan bazaars.

Pasar Ramadan Little India

Organised annually by the Penang Muslim League, this unique bazaar is a cross-culture between Indian and Arabic influences. See, smell, and savour colourful cuisines such as briyani, roti jala, chapati, samosa, pasembur, and murtabak.

Nasi kandar heavyweights like Tajuddin Hussain, Sultania, A Dawood, and Subaidah are at the bazaar offering their multi-coloured briyani rice, fiery curries, and vibrant Indian desserts.

Pasar Ramadan Taman Tun Sardon

We previously visited Astaka Taman Tun Sardon for a scrumptious feed of traditional halal delicacies, but did you know that the carpark next to it turns into a lively Ramadan bazaar in the afternoon for this fasting month?

Quench your thirst with colourful drinks like jagung, sirap bandung, Penang’s special jus amra, as well as a curious blue-coloured drink called 'Air Telekom'.

Pasar Ramadan Penang General Hospital

Just behind the Penang General Hospital is a long and narrow road lined with permanent and makeshift Ramadan bazaar stalls. Locals say the traditional kuih sold here are a notch higher than other bazaars.
