One of the latest additions to this matured neighbourhood is Restoran Good Taste, a cosy and comfortable café serving local Chinese hawker food.

The Herbal Duck Noodles (RM11.90) was the first to arrive, and it looked rather impressive. An entire leg of duck, braised and then deep-fried, sat atop a bowl of homemade wantan noodles and a very aromatic broth which had a generous sprinkling of wolfberries (keichi).

I dove straight into the soup, and was not disappointed. It was robust and full-flavoured, with a tinge of sweetness from the wolfberries. I liked that the herbs were not overpowering, and you could really taste the rich stock with which it was made from.

The homemade wantan noodles, too, were delicious, springy with a delightful bite. Alas, the duck leg was a bit of a let-down. The flesh was tough, and the duck was under-seasoned, resulting in an almost jerky-like texture but without even the saltiness of cured meat.

Next to arrive was the claypot loh shu fun (RM8). As soon as the dish was served, we proceeded to mix up the noodles, minced pork, raw egg and a dollop of chilli paste. The combination of flavours — from the savoury saltiness of the minced pork, to the spicy kick from the chilli and the smoothness of the egg coating every sliver of noodle — made this dish a winner in our books.

Yes, they tasted as 'blah' as they look. — March 3, 2015.Yes, they tasted as 'blah' as they look. — March 3, 2015.Finally, we decided to try their roasted meats, and went for a small platter (RM3.50) of char siu and roast pork belly (siew yoke). This was probably the biggest let down of the day. The measly slices of meat served to us not only looked unappetising, but were dry and extremely, well, unappetising.

The café is a nice change from the usual hot coffeeshops in the neighbourhood, and prices are reasonable enough, but in order to compete with Taman Desa’s many other eateries, it has to work on some of its item menus.

Recommended: Claypot loh shu fun

Give it a skip: Roasted meats
