Nothing beats licking down some good quality gelato on a cool day, and the people at Resorts World Genting must feel the same way!
The resort hotel recently launched their own gelato brand, ITALGelato, and we decided that we had to try it out for ourselves.
There are currently 18 flavours ranging from traditional milk-based gelato to sorbets and yoghurt-based offerings, which can be found at the hotel's Lobby Cafe, Hou Mei restaurant, Genting International Showroom and Horizon 50.
After having indulged in a gelato-fest, we present to you our top five picks from ITALGelato's selection:
Orange cheesecake
One of ITALGelato's signature flavours, the orange cheesecake was an absolute dream! It had a very dense texture which mirrors the richness of a cheesecake. This was balanced out by slight citrus zing from bits of orange embedded in the gelato. We loved how the bright, tangy flavours of the orange lifted the creaminess of the gelato.
Dark chocolate
Another of their signature flavours, the dark chocolate gelato embodies every meaning of the word "decadent". Made with Callebaut, a Belgian dark chocolate, each bite coated our palates with a rich and creamy texture. Thanks to its high percentage of cocoa, it also had a bitter edge. This is one flavour for the serious chocolate lovers.
Mango sorbet
For something much lighter, the mango sorbet was a refreshing option. It was one of the sweetest flavours to our taste buds. But it wasn't an artificial sweetness, rather the natural flavours of the imported Alphonso mangoes with which it was made. This had to be one of our favourite flavours as we loved how it tasted au naturel, as if quality mangoes had just been blended with ice.
Strawberry yoghurt
Made with imported fruits, the strawberry yoghurt was also another one of our favourites. Its flavours were reminiscent of froyo (frozen yoghurt) – it was light, refreshing and healthy. We liked that the taste of the strawberry was very apparent, a testament to the freshness of the fruits used.
Coppel del Nonno (Grandfather's cup)
The coppel del nonno or grandfather's cup is an old Italian recipe using coffee. This particular flavour is heavy on the coffee and light on the sugar, unlike the cloying artificial flavours you tend to get. Its rich and creamy texture was balanced by a slight bitterness which we really enjoyed.
With 13 more flavours to choose from, patrons really are spoilt for choice as it was hard to find fault with any of them!
The gelato is sold at RM9.50 for one scoop, RM19 for two, RM28.50 for three and RM38 for four.
To sample a whole lot of them, the ice cream is also sold in mini cones at RM20 for eight and RM26 for 12. You can even opt for different coloured and flavoured cones – chocolate, rose, green tea and charcoal – or a simple cup. – October 21, 2015.
