4 suspected Gang 36 members held over killing in Penang – Bernama

The police have detained four suspected Gang 36 members and seized two pistols to facilitate investigations into the killing of a man in Jalan Scotland, George Town on March 2.

The suspects, aged between 20 and 30, were on their way to Kuala Lumpur when they were picked up at the Sungai Perak Rest and Recreation (R&R) stop about 6pm yesterday.

State police chief Datuk Abdul Rahim Hanafi said following the arrests, the police raided a house rented by one of the four in Taman Seri Bistari, Nibong Tebal and seized two pistols and 18 rounds of ammunition.

"We believe one of the pistols was used in the shooting incident," he said today.

In the 9.30pm shooting incident, the 51-year-old victim who worked at a security guard firm was shot dead by one of two men on a motorcycle when a car driven by the victim stopped at a traffic light junction.

Following the incident, three people, including a businessman were arrested in George Town and Butterworth but were released.

Meanwhile, Rahim said investigations revealed the March 2 shooting incident was linked to a drug transaction involving triads, adding that the four suspects could also shed light on the murder of a teenage boy in Kampung Manis, Perai last month. – Bernama, March 22, 2015.
