alleged misuse of funds meant for orphans under Yayasan Pembangunan Ekonomi Islam (Yapeim) and urged that the minister in charge, Datuk Seri Jamil Khir Baharom, be investigated.
National Oversight and Whistleblowers (NOW) director Akmal Nasir today lodged a police report on theAkmal said the report was lodged so that the police can open investigation papers on the allegations that he first brought up two days ago.
“After revealing how Yapeim money was not used for its intended purposes, the time has come for the issue to be brought to the authorities. We want the police to investigate,” he said.
Akmal came to the Dang Wangi district police headquarters at 1.30pm and completed lodging the report half an hour later.
“I hope the police investigation can unveil more details about this scandal,” he said.
Yapeim involves the interests of about 580,000 people, he said, adding that the entire Yapeim trustee board must be investigated, including Jamil Khir.
Akmal previously refused to apologise over allegations that Jamli Khir had misused the Yapeim funds in 2014 for a trip to the United States.
Jamil Khir had threatened to sue Akmal over the allegations, but the NOW director insisted that the minister in the prime minister's department provide an explanation on the matter first.
Jamil Khir is also expected to lodge a police report on the matter in Putrajaya today.
“I heard that he would lodge a police report, I do not know the purpose. Previously he demanded an apology from me, now he wants to make a police report,” he said.
Akmal had alleged that the funds were used for a golfing trip and trips to a luxurious shopping mall in Washington.
Jamil Khir had accused Akmal of trying to destroy the former's credibility with false allegations. – November 15, 2015.
