The division's chief, Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob, said the call was a unanimous decision made at the special meeting of Bera Umno committee today.

Dr Mahathir is currently the chairman of Perdana Leadership Foundation and Proton Holdings Berhad, as well as the adviser of Petronas.

"Bera Umno strongly condemned the attempt made by Dr Mahathir and Lim Kit Siang (DAP adviser) alliance to illegally topple the prime minister," he said in a statement today.

Ismail said they were also disappointed with former deputy prime minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin and former Kedah menteri besar Datuk Seri Mukhriz Mahathir for joining the alliance, and urged the Umno Supreme Council to take stern action against the duo.

Muhyiddin and Mukhriz were among 50 individuals who signed the so-called Citizens' Declaration to support the move to oust Najib as prime minister last Friday.

Also supporting the declaration were DAP's Lim Kit Siang, Selangor Menteri Besar and PKR deputy president Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali and former MCA president Tun Dr Ling Liong Sik. – Bernama, March 6, 2016.
