Pro-Umno blogger Wan Muhammad Azri Wan Deris, also known as Papagomo, is expected to be charged at the magistrate’s court in Kuala Lumpur tomorrow with alleged assault of a foreign worker, the video of which went viral on social media.
The video of the assault, which allegedly occurred in late January, was posted on his Facebook page and drew condemnation as well as praise.
Papagomo said he assaulted the foreigner because the man “sexually harassed” two of his younger sisters and two of their friends.
He was seen slapping, pushing and kicking the worker, said to be from Pakistan.
He received praise from many viewers for protecting his sisters.
But his action was condemned by Migration Working Group (MWG) coordinator Jessica Low, who said it was never right for anyone to take the law into his own hands.
Deputy Inspector-General of Police Datuk Seri Noor Rashid Ibrahim early last month said Papgomo had “undermined” the police by acting on his own and would be investigated. – March 10, 2016.
