Chegubard charged again for organising post-GE13 rally

Badrul Hisham, better known as Chegubard, seen here at a court appearance last month over the Black 505 rally, will face another court date for another rally held in May 2013 in Petaling Jaya , Selangor. – The Malaysian Insider pic, December 8, 2015.The founder of the Malaysian Youth Solidarity Movement(SAMM), Badrul Hisham Shaharin was charged again in the Sessions Court in Petaling Jaya today for organising the Selangor voters’ appreciation assembly, two years ago.

Badrul Hisham, better known as Chegubard, 37, who is also former Rembau PKR branch leader, pleaded not guilty to the charge read before Judge Yasmin Abdul Razak.

According to the charge, Badrul Hisham as the organiser, had failed to notify the Petaling Jaya police chief on the programme within the stipulated time, which was 10 days before the date of the event.

He was alleged to have committed the offence at Padang Timur, Dataran Petaling Jaya, Jalan Timur at 5pm on May 25, 2013, three weeks after the general election which saw the then Pakatan Rakyat coalition retain Selangor with a stronger majority.

The charge under Section 9(1) of the Peaceful Assembly Act 2012 read with Section 9(5) of the PAA, carries a fine of up to RM10,000 upon conviction. 

The court fixed three days for the trial beginning on March 16 next year.

On June 5, 2013, Badrul Hisham was charged in the Petaling Jaya Sessions Court for the same offence.

However, on August 4, 2014, the Sessions Court judge granted Badrul Hisham a discharge not amounting to acquittal following an application by the defence.
