MCA president Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai yesterday urged media practitioners to report issues with integrity and responsibility.
He said there were many cases of false news being spread through social media without verifications from reliable sources.
“We saw this yesterday, when a single, irresponsible post on Facebook started a chain of false rumours about Malaysia Airlines flight MH149 to Melbourne,” he said in his speech at MCA Media Night attended by around 1,000 media practitioners at party headquarters today.
Liow said the Department of Civil Aviation had to clarify that there was no such missing flight.
The transport minister also applauded media practitioners who had helped put out social media posts to quash the rumours. – Bernama, February 26, 2016.
