The media should stop reporting racially tinged remarks, Umno minister Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor said today as he defended a Cabinet colleague from claims that he threatened to slap Chinese Malaysians.
"Why do you (media) keep on stirring this story, like the opposition. The shit you stir smells, very good, you know," he told reporters today when asked again about action against Agriculture and Agro-based deputy minister Datuk Seri Tajuddin Abdul Rahman who allegedly made such a remark.
"Tajuddin didn't mean to slap, Tajuddin did not say (it). This kind of stories, kill it," Tengku Adnan said
Last Thursday, Tajuddin allegedly threatened to "slap" the Chinese if complained about their problems here to other governments.
This followed a visit by China's ambassador to Petaling Street in Kuala Lumpur, where he warned against extremism and discrimination based on race.
Tajuddin later denied making those remarks.
Tengku Adnan, who is also Umno secretary-general, also rebuked Umno-owned Malay daily Utusan Malayisa for "twisting" reports on Tajuddin's comments.
“You all journalist, when China's ambassador went to Petaling Street, he went with good faith.
“But Utusan took Ronnie Liu's blog and Teresa Kok's and twisted it and made it as headlines. Then it becomes a problem.
“Please don't be lazy and work a bit, lah,” he said.
China's ambassador Huang Huikang on September 25 courted controversy when he visited Petaling Street, also known as Kuala Lumpur's Chinatown, where he reportedly said that Beijing was opposed to terrorism, extremism and any form of discrimination based on race.
Petaling Street was the scene of chaos on September 16 when police had to use water cannons to disperse a crowd of 'red shirt' protesters who wanted to force their way into the area to protest the mainly ethnic Chinese traders there. – October 5, 2015.
