The Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency detained five Indonesian men suspected of attempting to infiltrate Malaysian waters in an operation codenamed "Operasi Satria Selatan" in Pulau Undan yesterday.
Kuala Linggi District Five Maritime Enforcement head, Maritime Captain Mazlan Mat Rejab, said the suspects comprising a boat crewman and a skipper as well as three passengers aged between 20 and 49 were detained five nautical miles west of the island at about 10.45pm last night.
"They were detained after MMEA detected the noise from a fibre glass boat with a 40 horsepower Yamaha engine without a registration number from the direction of the Sungai Duyung coast heading to the middle of the sea while they were patrolling in the area," he told reporters at a press conference today.
He said initial inspection revealed that the skipper and crewman, aged 49 and 34 respectively, and a 34-year-old passenger did not have any identification document or passport.
Mazlan said the other two passengers, aged 20 and 24, had social visit passes which expired on October 7 and November 25 last year.
He said the boat was likely used to bring in and out Indonesian nationals using un-gazetted routes. – Bernama, March 11, 2016.
