PAS president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang will reportedly support moves to oust Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak but wants the matter brought to Parliament first. – The Malaysian Insider file pic, March 10, 2016.PAS president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang will back an ouster of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak if it is done through a vote of no confidence tabled in Parliament, party secretary-general Datuk Takiyuddin Hassan said today.
“If the motion is brought to Parliament, we will support, but do it first," he said.
When asked if Hadi would support such a move, Takiyuddin said the president would.
"Yes, PAS is Abdul Hadi, Abdul Hadi is PAS," he said when met at the Parliament lobby early today.
Only yesterday, Hadi had dismissed the Citizens' Declaration and the Save Malaysia movement, both initiatives by former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, saying they were pointless.
He said there were two other ways to change the prime minister – through a general election or a vote of no confidence.
Takiyuddin today said, "There are some things that are similar to our fight but we also have our own fight. We have our own system and (way of making) decisions."
The secretary-general, who is also Kota Baru MP, said going through elections or a vote of no confidence was PAS's stand on how the prime minister should be removed.
"The method of removing him has to go through (proper) procedure."
Hadi had earlier said Islam did not encourage the "sacking" of leaders, who should be "corrected" if they had done wrong.
PAS's decision not to support the Citizens' Declaration has led to talk that the Islamist party is collaborating with Umno, which Najib leads, as the heads of both parties had recently expressed willingness to work together on matters concerning Islam and the nation with PAS remaining an opposition party.
Takiyuddin denied that this was the reason PAS had not supported the declaration.
"Politics is very broad. It does not mean that if we do not agree on certain things, we cannot bring up same issue. We can. What Tun Mahathir has raised is (only) one way to go against the leader," he said. – March 10, 2016.
