Blogger Wan Muhammad Azri Wan Deris pleaded guilty to three charges of alleged assault of a foreign worker at the Kuala Lumpur magistrate's court today.
Also known as Papagomo, he made the guilty plea before magistrate Husna Dzulkifly for the incident in January which was recorded on a video that went viral on social media.
Papagomo admitted guilt to the charges that were read under Section 323 of the Penal Code on voluntarily causing hurt.
The court has not pronounced sentencing and Husna adjourned proceedings until 2.30pm today.
The first charge was for causing hurt to the victim by slapping his left cheek.
The second charge was for punching the victim's face resulting in injury and the third was for kicking the victim in the groin.
The penalty under Section 323 carries a jail sentence of a year of a fine of RM2,000 for each offence.
The video of the January 29 incident was posted on Papagomo's Facebook page and drew both condemnation as well as praise.
Those who praised him said he did well as he had been defending two of his younger sisters and two of their friends from alleged sexual harassment by the foreigner.
The video shows the blogger slapping, pushing and kicking the man, said to be from Pakistan.
Deputy inspector-general of police Datuk Seri Noor Rashid Ibrahim early last month said Papagomo had “undermined” the police by acting on his own and would be investigated. – March 11, 2016.
