Umno leaders and members should focus on the party's solidarity to help Barisan Nasional (BN) in retaining power in the 14th General Election, said Pahang Umno Liaison Committee chairman Datuk Seri Adnan Yaakob.
He said strong unity or solidarity at all levels of the party would help the party become stronger in fighting for its cause.
"Whatever problems which arise within Umno should not affect the stability and unity among Umno members," he told reporters after opening the Sungai Bertam catchment conservation programme at Padang Awam in Cameron Highlands, today.
The Pahang menteri besar said leaders should also go down to the ground more often and dive into the minds of voters, in addition to implementing programmes that can captivate the hearts of the people at the grassroots.
"I often meet with people at the grassroots level, regardless of whether it is an official or non-official event, because it is part of my job," he said.
Commenting on the action to be imposed on Umno members who signed the Mahathir's Declaration, Adnan said: "To be sacked or not, is up to the party to decide. What's important is that we have to work hard for the stability of the party".
On Friday, former deputy prime minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin and former Kedah menteri besar Datuk Seri Mukhriz Tun Dr Mahathir were among some 50 people who signed the declaration to support the removal of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak.
Also signing the declaration led by former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad were Lim Kit Siang of DAP, Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Mohamed Azmin Ali of PKR, and former MCA president Tun Dr Ling Liong Sik. – Bernama, March 10, 2016.
