Another piece of possible debris from Malaysia Airlines flight MH370 may have been found by a South African family on a beach in Mozambique last December 30.
Yahoo Australia reported that Casper Lotter said his family found it near the town of Xai Xai and returned to South Africa with it.
It also reported South African Civil Aviation Authority’s Accident and Incident Investigations Division confirming that it would send an official to the family's home in Wartburg to collect the piece.
The UK's Daily Mail reported Durban’s East Coast radio saying the Lotter family came across “shiny objects” while walking on the beach.
“We picked it up and I turned it around and it had like a, sort of like a curve to it and you can see where it’s been like pop riveted almost, like there’s holes on the side.
“I’m going to do some research and see what I can find on the internet. And you know what? On the side it has sort of a serial number,” Lotter was quoted as saying by the Daily Mail.
They only realised what their find could possibly be after another piece of debris was found off Mozambique.
The piece that Lotter found, which was labelled with “676EB”, bore resemblance to the debris found two weeks ago by US blogger Blaine Gibson.
An analysis of the piece Gibson found will be conducted in Australia early this week to confirm if it came from MH370.
Tuesday marked the second anniversary of the plane's disappearance.
MH370 was carrying 239 passengers and crew when it vanished on March 8, 2014 on an overnight flight from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing.
Last July, a wing fragment was found washed ashore on the Indian Ocean island of Reunion and later confirmed to be from the plane. – March 11, 2016.
