The Transport Ministry will conduct a detailed study on the proposal to allow the “mat rempit” to race on roads in Kuala Lumpur, as it involved certain risks.
Its minister Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai said a comprehensive study was needed to solve the traffic congestion that would occur in the area designated to them besides the risk of accidents.
"Most importantly if the proposal is implemented, the parties concerned have to identify the closure of certain areas for the racing activities on the roads that must meet safety requirements," he said after launching the Chap Goh Meh carnival at Kampung Cina in Kuala Terengganu today.
He was commenting on the proposal by Federal Territories Minister Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Mansor that the government provided motorcycle race tracks in certain areas in the federal capital for the youths keen on the activity. – Bernama, February 26, 2016.
