The statement, as quoted by The Star Online, follows a string of previous statements urging the national airline to practise more religious conduct.

Umno Youth exco Dazman Shah Daud had earlier said Muslim female flight attendants should be made compulsory to wear the hijab and that the airline should stop serving alcohol altogether.

According to the portal, he later clarified that only those who wish to do so should be allowed and that prohibiting them would be discriminatory.

In a Sinar Harian report, while putting airlines from Islamic countries as examples, he was quoted as saying, “We should not be afraid of business being affected because we must be confident with God’s will if we follow it.”

The party's Religious Bureau chairman Azmir Yuzaimi Mohd Yunos supported the alcohol ban and also suggested that MAS recite prayers before each flight.

Umno Youth's call for changes stems from the double tragedies of flights MH370 and MH17. – August 27, 2014.
