Urban Wellbeing, Housing and Local Government Minister Datuk Abdul Rahman Dahlan said the police report that Akmal lodged yesterday against minister Datuk Seri Jamil Khir Baharom and the Muslim charity organisation he oversees, Yayasan Pembangunan Ekonomi Islam Malaysia (Yapeim), contained a list of questions.

Rahman said the questioned showed that Akmal was unsure of the facts.

“Why are you willing to shame the minister in charge of Islamic affairs like that? Why not ask Yapeim first before holding the press conference?” Rahman said on Twitter today.

“Neither Akmal Nasir nor NOW appear interesting in the truth. They are more interested in shaming others,” he said in another post.

Akmal in a series of press conferences last week, raised several allegations against Yapeim, which is under the Prime Minister's Department, and against Jamil Khir.

One was an allegation that funds meant for the charity foundation's programmes in Rompin during the by-election in May this year went to a Wanita Umno leader instead.

Another was on the amount of monthly allowances paid to Yapeim's top directors, who held multiple posts enabling them to take home huge sums.

Akmal has also accused Yapeim of misusing funds on Jamil Khir's visit to the United States in 2014 that allegedly involved shopping trips and golf sessions.

The NOW chief has refused to apologise despite a demand and threat of a lawsuit by Jamil Khir, who yesterday also lodged a police report over the claims made by Akmal. – November 16, 2015.
