‘Fight Club 2’ coming April 2015

Now dated for April 2015, a ten-issue run from Dark Horse Comics is Chuck Palahniuk's sequel to the 1996 novel.

The first story achieved global recognition via a 1999 film adaptation with David Fincher at the helm and the otherwise unlikely trio of Ed Norton, Brad Pitt and Helena Bonham Carter in front of the camera.

Cameron Stewart illustrates a sequel that takes place both before and after the first "Fight Club," with the original character's young son now on the scene, providing a means by which Tyler Durden's origin story can be explored.

"Tyler tries to go back and reclaim that phase of his life, and is just a pathetic failure," Palahniuk said during a conversation with USA Today.

"He's not that person anymore. But beyond that, it's what the Fight Club organisation has grown into in his absence and what he's pulled back into."

Palahniuk's official website has the first issue debuting on April 8, 2015. As for how the main characters have changed, Stewart detailed some of the alterations on Comic Book Resources.

"This is ten years after the first book, they've changed their stations in life. Marla is a housewife now, an upper-class housewife. Her manner is different now," he explained.

"Something I never picked up on in the original novel, is that Tyler has long hair," he said, here referring to Brad Pitt's character rather than Ed Norton's wiry office worker.

"The image of Tyler that's in the popular culture is Brad Pitt, with the short hair and the scruff goatee."

"Actually, the way he looks in the novel is sort of like Chris Hemsworth as Thor. He's supposed to have that kind of hairstyle."

As for the storyline, "It's really absolutely what no one is going to expect in a really positive way," said Stewart. "I want to see what happens when people hit that part of the story when it takes a turn for the absolutely bizarre."

Both Palahniuk and Fincher are to attend the San Diego Comic-Con for a July 26 panel called "Fight Club: From Page to Screen and Beyond," with a Dark Horse panel with Palahniuk, Stewart and cover artist David Mack taking place the next day. – AFP/Relaxnews, July 24, 2014.
