Jim Crace wins Dublin literary award
The biggest financial prize in literature for a single novel published in the English language has been awarded to British writer Jim Crace for his 11th work of fiction, "Harvest".
Now in its 20th year, nominees for the Impac Dublin Literary Award are selected by public libraries in 39 countries around the world from which a panel of judges draw up a shortlist and choose an eventual recipient of the €100,000 prize.
Of selecting "Harvest," a book chronicling the final days of an English village, as its winner, the judges said: "At times, Harvest reads like a long prose poem; it plays on the ear like a river of words. But then again, Jim Crace is a consummate wordsmith; his understanding of human nature is uncanny and he never drops a stitch from start to finish."
Born in Hertfordshire and raised in North London, Crace is just the fourth British author to have won the prize in its 20-year history and was previously shortlisted in 1999 for "Quarantine". – AFP Relaxnews, June 18, 2015.
