New York's annual book fair will open on May 27 with an event featuring Jonathan Franzen in conversation with Laura Miller of Salon.com, during which he'll talk about his writing, his influences and his latest, highly anticipated novel, “Purity”, out this fall.

Tony Award winner Nathan Lane is on board as the master of ceremonies for the Children's Breakfast, where he'll talk about his own upcoming children's book, “Naughty Mabel”, due out in the fall.

BookExpo America is a famously star-studded event, but it is for trade only. Thankfully, more star power will be on hand at BookCon, a consumer-focused event that will pick up at the same venue on May 30 and 31 after BookExpo draws to a close on the 29th.

Put on by the same organisers as New York Comic Con, BookCon calls itself an event "where storytelling and pop culture collide" and will kick off with Mindy Kaling ("The Mindy Project") in conversation with her former "The Office" co-star BJ Novak. Kaling's second book, “Why Me?”, is out this year.

Comedian Aziz Ansari, author of the soon-to-release book “Modern Romance”, is also in the line-up, as is his former "Parks & Recreation" co-star Nick Offerman, author of the new book “Gumption: Relighting the Torch of Freedom with America's Gutsiest Troublemakers”.

A film panel will focus on the adaptation of “Paper Towns”, with the book's author John Green and the film's star Nat Wolff among panel members.

Other events will feature Jason Segal, Julianne Moore, Brian Selznick, Candace Bushnell and David Duchovny, among many more.

Tickets for BookCon cost between US$30 (RM108) and US$40 per day; kids can enter for US$5. Details can be found at www.thebookcon.com. – AFP/Relaxnews, May 26, 2015.
