"I'm both thrilled and terrified, my usual feelings at this point," said Blume in a statement released by publisher Knopf and reported in the New York Times. "I'll be hiding out this summer revising, my favorite part of the process."

As for its content, neither author nor Knopf editor Carole Baron supplied much detail beyond the initial scheduling announcement.

Thematically, it's "pure Judy Blume" and "quintessential Judy", said Baron, providing constancy in the midst of a genre transition, revealing that the novel would cover family, friendship, love and betrayal.

Blume established herself with the unflinching yet carefully nuanced tale of adolescent adaptation "Are You There God? It's Me, Margaret" in 1970 and authored 19 books throughout the 70s and 80s.

"Summer Sisters", a 1998 novel about the relationship between two girls as their lives and loves change and converge, was Blume's previous adult-oriented work; she has since edited a collection of short stories, written the fifth "Fudge" series entry as well as four in the "Pain and the Great One" line, and partaken in 2013 discussion "Judy Blume in conversation with Lena Dunham". – AFP/Relaxnews, June 27, 2014.
