Matthew Santoro latest YouTuber with a book deal
Canadian vlogger Matthew Santoro has joined many of his YouTubing peers in landing a book deal likely to appeal to his well-established fan base.
Santoro has signed a global deal with Penguin for "MIND = BLOWN", which, like his videos, is to feature "weird, hilarious and crazy facts about the world around us," as reported in The Bookseller.
The topics Santoro covers on his YouTube channel, which has nearly 4.3 million subscribers, include 10 fictional characters that were based on real people, the 10 weirdest museums in the world and the 10 biggest parties ever thrown.
Santoro's book is due out in August 2016. In the meantime, several fellow YouTubers have their own books set to release in the coming months:
Marcus Butler – ‘Hello Life!’
YouTube star Marcus Butler is readying the release of his part memoir, part self-help guide for July 28. With 3.8 million subscribers to his YouTube channel and two million Twitter followers, the British vlogger posts a weekly video with topics ranging from the types of people you meet during exam season to trying candy from Holland.
Joe Sugg – ‘Evie’
The younger brother of popular beauty vlogger Zoella is releasing a graphic novel on September 10. He reportedly worked with an illustrator and with author Matt Whyman on the book about a socially isolated girl who discovers a virtual world her dying father created for her. Sugg's YouTube channel, ThatcherJoe, has nearly 4.8 million subscribers.
Tyler Oakley – ‘Binge’
YouTuber and LGBTQ activist Tyler Oakley, whose vlogs covers his activism and other social issues, is releasing a collection of essays on October 20. Via a deal with Simon & Schuster, he'll offer his seven million subscribers (and more than 10 million total followers) a look at previously untold off-camera moments as part of this look at his off-screen life. – AFP/RelaxNews, June 30, 2015.
