Tokyo shares open higher on Wall Street gains, oil rise

Tokyo shares opened higher today as modest gains on Wall Street and a big jump in oil prices boosted sentiment, despite lingering worries about global growth.

The benchmark Nikkei 225 index at the Tokyo Stock Exchange rose 1.01%, or 168.80 points, to 16,811.00 in opening deals, while the broader Topix index of all first-section shares gained 0.95%, or 12.62 points, to 1,344.95. – AFP, March 10, 2016.
