Potentially the perfect vehicle for the indecisive car connoisseur, the latest Brabus-modified Mercedes solves the problem of having to choose between taking the limousine to arrive in comfort or taking the supercar to arrive quickly.

Based on the new Mercedes-Maybach, which was developed by Mercedes to represent the pinnacle of chauffer-driven luxury, Brabus has turned it into a 5.4-meter-long 2.8-ton road-going rocket.

The work of a crack team of engineers, technicians and craftsmen, the engine that powers the car is based on the 6-liter V12 unit used in the standard Maybach, but after Brabus has finished its tuning, it's capable of outputting 887bhp.

This translates into a 0-100kph time of 3.7 seconds and a scarcely believable top speed of 217mph (350kph).

This phenomenal performance – which makes the car faster off the mark than an Aston Martin Vanquish and gives it a higher top speed than any current Aston or even a Ferrari F12 Berlinetta, which tops out at ‘just' 211mph (340kph) – is thanks to new turbochargers, pistons, exhaust system and aerodynamics package.

As long as the car is standing still, onlookers will be able to tell that it's a Brabus-tuned machine thanks to special 21-inch alloy wheels, a redesigned front and rear bumper and the addition of a rear air diffuser, a device usually only found on supercars.

So that the car, which is one of the longest currently on the road anywhere in the world, can make the most of all this speed, Brabus has lowered the ride height by 25mm and integrated a front spoiler into the new front bumper which, it claims, will stop lift on the car's front axle at higher speeds.

Inside, clients can personalize the cabin finish to their exact specifications, much like the standard Maybach.

But as well as woods and leathers, Brabus also offers carbon fiber as a surface finish and its own iBusiness productivity suite, developed from Apple components, for those who want to work quickly, on the go.

As a final touch, the new exhaust system has two modes – "Coming Home" and "Sport" – which the driver can switch between at the touch of a button.

In Sport mode the pipes and the volume open up to the maximum so that it sounds like a supercar, while selecting ‘Coming Home' turns things down to a whisper so as not to upset the neighbors. – AFP Relaxnews, August 11, 2015.
