Enter the Volvo XC60 T6

Volvo Car Malaysia has announced the availability of a new variant to the XC60 family, the XC60 T6.

Our objective of making luxury and safety more accessible in the form of the XC60 T5 has been well received, which is why we are launching this new variant much earlier than projected, said Keith Schafer, managing director of Volvo Car Malaysia.

The new XC60 T6 is a showcase of Scandinavian luxury — a successful blend of comfort, performance and safety that holds true to our core values.

It is powered by Volvo’s all-new modular power-train, the Drive-E engine. The two-litre, four-cylinder Drive-E engine churns out a maximum power of 306hp at 5,700 rpm and a maximum torque of 400Nm, mated with an 8-speed Geartronic transmission.

The engine, with a combination of a compressor and turbocharger, can do the century sprint in 6.9 seconds.

The mechanically linked compressor gives immediate function at low revs, while the turbocharger kicks in when the airflow builds up. Fuel consumption is 7.3 litres/100 km (169g/km).

The electrical power assist steering uses an electrical motor to support the steering rack, with three levels of power assistance. In Low mode, the system provides a high degree of power support, making manoeuvring easier. Medium mode offers more road response at higher speeds while High mode contributes to a more dynamic character.

The new XC60 T6 has the same exterior and interior updates as the new XC60 T5, along with additions such as 18-inch alloy wheels with 235/60R18 tyres and an eight-inch adaptive digital display (ADP) as standard. A power operated tailgate and grocery bag holder in the cargo area are also included.

Optional accessories include the Iron Stone exterior styling kit, primed-colour running board and silver aluminium steps, mouldings for the front and rear, and also 20-inch Diamond Cut or Iron Stone alloy wheels.

The ADP, which debuted in the all-new V40 T5, uses an active thin film transistor (TFT) crystal display, to bring the driver personalised information, with three themes to choose from: Elegance, Eco and Performance.

The infotainment system, Sensus Connect, comes with innovative functions such as cloud-based services, improved voice control navigation with 3D maps, TuneIn Internet radio (with 80,000 channels) and music streaming through Bluetooth.

It is fully-equipped with class-leading active safety technologies. IntelliSafe, Volvo's blanket name for all its active safety systems, encompasses the new active high beam control as well as pedestrian and cyclist detection.

Safety features also include driver alert control, lane departure warning, adaptive cruise control with queue assist and distance alert, road sign information and speed alert function, city safety, blind spot information system and cross traffic alert.

The new XC60 T6 is available in five colours , Twilight Bronze, Ice White, Ember Black, Electric Silver and Seashell.

It is priced at an introductory offer of RM315,888 (on-the-road price without insurance) and comes with a five-year warranty, five years of free service including parts per scheduled maintenance and five years of free roadside assist (Volvo-on-Call). — CBT, November 18, 2014.
