One million more Hondas added to Takata airbag recall
The North American arm of Honda is adding even more cars to its already sizeable list of vehicles that may have a defective airbag inflator on board.
Following discussions with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, Honda is adding the 2003-2007 Accord and the 2001-2005 Civic to its recall list.
This means that there are more than 6 million Honda and Acura models built since 2000 that potentially contain a defective Takata airbag.
Due to a problem with the inflator and propellant devices used to activate an airbag in the event of a collision, there have been a number of instances of metal fragments being fired into passengers as the airbags inflate.
An estimated 34 million cars on US roads are believed to be affected by the fault. – AFP/Relaxnews, June 17, 2015.
