Overwhelming response to Perodua Axia, Malaysia’s first EEV

Axia, Malaysia's first energy-efficient vehicle (EEV) has received an overwhelming response from consumers, garnering 6,000 orders from August 15 – when booking was open – until last Sunday.

Perodua President and Chief Executive Officer Datuk Aminar Rashid Salleh said Perodua has not set the booking target until its launch next month.

"However, we are overwhelmed with the tremendous response from consumers even though Axia has yet to be launched while consumers have not seen it yet.

"What I can promise is that the new model will surprise you," he told reporters after opening the International Conference on Green Technologies for Automobile organised by Universiti Malaysia Pahang today.

Aminar said Axia's launch date will be announced later and Perodua has set a sales target of 8,000 units a month after its launch.

In a statement, Perodua said the latest model is its most fuel efficient car that could travel up to 21.6 km per litre, spacious, packed with unique Malaysian features, and boasted an overall low-cost ownership.

With a tentative starting price of RM24,900 (for Peninsular Malaysia), it is open for booking at all Perodua sales outlets. – Bernama, August 26, 2014.
