In a statement today, Perodua president/chief executive officer, Datuk Aminar Rashid Salleh, said the company's products and services were offered with safety-first in mind.

Aminar said this in response to a posting by blogger Wolf Vaupel on March 10, 2015, who said the Perodua Myvi and Alza models posed high safety risks to customers.

Vaupel claimed the self-illuminating instrument cluster featured in both the Myvi and the Alza as "deadly".

According to Vaupel's logic, the self-illuminating instrument panel confused drivers into thinking that the headlights were on.

"We wish to clarify, that based on inquiries made to both the authorities and insurance companies there were no such linkage concerning self-illuminating instrument cluster and road collisions at night," Aminar said.

He said the self-illuminating instrument cluster was featured on other international brands.

Aminar said the company was perplexed on why Vaupel's attacks were only directed at Perodua.

"In fact, even the first generation MyVi, circa 2005-2011, is Euro 4-certified as Perodua exported to the UK previously.

"We have since improved on those safety features for our customers," he said. – Bernama, March 16, 2015.
