Based on the popular mid-sized, C-segment family hatchback, this ultimate edition of the 308 uses a combination of a gas and electric power to deliver 500hp and a 0-100km/h time of 4 seconds.

However, because it is a hybrid, its CO2 emissions are just 70g/km. And, to ensure that the car isn't as twitchy, savage or oversensitive as some other very fast sports cars, Peugeot has given the car all-wheel drive – a dedicated electric motor is mounted on each axel to drive two wheels, providing extra grip and stability and, when working in conjunction with the traditional 1.6-litre gas engine, greater acceleration.

"If we were able to reach this kind of performance on a C-segment, it is all down to our passion for a challenge and our desire for excellence.

“The Peugoet 308 R Hybrid is part of a very select club of cars reaching 0-62mph in four seconds," says Jean-Philippe Delaire, its head of development.
