All excited over waffles at Fluffed
New kid on the block Fluffed Cafe & Dessert Bar has been open for a mere two weeks, but it has already been getting rave reviews.
Owner Charles Choong, 25, decided to open a cafe due to his passion in baking which comes across clearly in the offerings at this quaint bakery-cafe.
Choong started with an online bakery called Charles Cakes & Confectionary, supplying cakes to other cafes in KL. After three years in the business and rave reviews to his cakes, he decided to open Fluffed.
Fluffed has a homey feel to it. The interior is minimalistic with wooden chairs and tables. The walls are painted white which helps keep it bright and airy.
The main attraction here are the waffles. We decided on the top two recommendations – Pooh Bear’s Favourite and Alice in Wonderland.
Pooh Bear’s Favourite (RM18) is waffles topped with hokey pokey ice cream (honey comb ice cream), crushed honeycomb, almond praline and salted caramel sauce, served up with fresh blueberries, strawberries and banana.
We loved that all the flavours balanced out very well without being overwhelming. The waffles were absolutely delicious, the texture light, fluffy and airy with a slight crunch on the outside as all great waffles should be.
The hokey pokey ice cream was a delight. It had a smooth creamy texture and went well with the waffles. Needless to say, we cleared our plate really fast.
Next up was Alice in Wonderland (RM19), waffles topped with lavender blueberry ice cream, blueberry jam and butter crumble, served with fresh blueberries and strawberries.
This was our favourite, even if we were initially quite sceptical about the lavender blueberry ice cream as the taste of lavender can sometimes be overwhelming.
However, the lavender blended very well with the blueberry, giving it a rich and balanced taste and creamy texture.
The combination of the waffles, ice cream and jam was unlike any we had tasted before. It was unique and we were glad that we went for it. A sprinkle of butter crumble provided a nice crunchy finish.
Besides waffles, Fluffed also offers a selection of cakes and pastries such as Rose Lychee Cloudcake, Lemon Meringue, Vanilla Cream Puff and Blueberry Cheesecake, which are all home made.
For drinks, we decided on hot chocolate (RM10) and a Hazelnut Latte (RM12). The hot chocolate was very rich and thick, while a touch of hazelnut gave our coffee a delicate nutty flavour.
We highly recommend Fluffed – the fresh ingredients, home made pastries and ice creams will definitely appeal to all cafe lovers out there. – November 26, 2015.
