Araki, Umu in London win 2-star Michelin ratings
Two Japanese restaurants in London have acquired Michelin’s two-star rating upon publication of the Michelin Guide Great Britain & Ireland.
Alongside Araki and Umu, the guide’s announcement also highlighted several of the 15 new one-star ratings also located in the capital: Lyle’s, Bonhams, Portland and the Dining Room at the Goring, as well as The Man Behind the Curtain in Leeds.
Loughborough’s John’s House, The Cellar in Anstruther, Scotland, Eipic and OX in Belfast, the Greenhouse in Dublin and Loam in Galway were also referenced.
Twenty-five new Bib Gourmand award winners were also inducted – the title going to the best restaurants with more affordable prices, such as the White Swan in Fence, Oli’s Thai in Oxford, The Coach in Marlow and Taberna do Mercado in Spitalfields.
The Fat Duck of Heston Blumenthal fame misses out as a result of its temporary move to Australia.
Michelin’s 2016 ratings were revealed a day ahead of a planned announcement, Twitter account MichelinGuideUK said, after it was “let down once again by a bookshop”. – AFP/RelaxNews, September 18, 2015.
