Coating these buckwheat beauties in melted cheese makes for a more sophisticated take on the childhood pleasure. – November 13, 2015.Everyone deserves a day away from the kitchen to take in the generous street foods and plentiful restaurants which the city has to offer. Also, with the cost of eating out in Malaysia lower than most other countries, we can still usually afford to “tapau” (take-away) or saunter down the road to a neighbourhood haunt to enjoy a packet of 50 sen nasi lemak.

With that in mind, here are some of HungryGoWhere’s affordable indoor and outdoor spots in Pandan Indah to eat out.

Aroy Aroy Thai

Aroy Aroy Thai takes up wooden kiosk in the concourse level of Midpoint Shopping Centre, which also provides outdoor seating behind a glass wall, a nod back to the time it was but a wee stall in front of the mall. It retains its cheery popularity however, as only RM5 platters of authentic Thai flavours and RM2-3 drinks can.

We ordered up a plate of Maggi kerabu, that was honestly one of the most intense lunches we’ve had. It packed a punch with its flavourful combination of mostly sweet, sour, and spicy.

Luckily, the mango sticky rice was creamy and not too sweet, quite like the one we had in Kampung Baru, and helped put out the fire alongside our cooling longan and cincau drinks.

Not even a year old, Udon-ya San is GST and service charge-free, as the owner so emphatically reminds each person as they order. With such reasonable prices, you also speedily receive more than your regular udon servings. It’s pretty well-liked, after all, how can anyone not like affordable Japanese food?

Their lineup of self-made udon involve the likes of crowd-favourites like the black pepper udon, carbonara udon, mentaiko udon (cod roe, RM14), and tsukimi udon (poached egg noodles, RM7) They also have plenty of side dishes to choose from, like crispy-battered tonkatsu (pork cutlets, RM6) and plump chicken karaage.
