New reality show on the lookout for chef hopefuls
Singapore media group, MediaCorp is launching a food-centric reality-style contest which aims to discover the next big culinary talent in Asia.
The top three winners of the Eat List Star talent search will have the opportunity to develop their culinary careers and land long-term media and business contracts with Mediacorp, said the group's head of the Foodies Segment, Guillaume Sachet.
"They will have the support to build and promote their personal brands, whatever the media vehicle – be it a cooking show, a food and travel programme, or a cool F&B business idea.
"It’s a rare platform to develop their culinary careers on an impressive scale," said Sachet.
Contestants for Eat List Star will be judged by personalities like award-winning chef Ryan Clift from Singapore and celebrities like actor-host Uttsada Panichkul, or more popularly known as Utt.
These personalities will also be sharing their experience, tips and tricks over the course of the competition.
"Current expectations of a chef are very different from just a decade ago," said Clift, chef-owner of Singapore's Tippling Club.
"Chefs can no longer afford to stay in the kitchen and be acknowledged as a food authority. They have to develop a voice and a personality in both the online and offline community, and I'm thrilled to be a part of this search that honours those expectations,” he said in a statement released by MediaCorp.
Interested participants have to register on www.eatlist.sg, where they will upload a 15-second introductory video and five photos of their best culinary creations.
A total of 20 semi-finalists will slug it out at a five-day "boot camp" in Singapore. Ten talented chefs will be selected for the finals, which will also be held in the city-state.
The challenges will focus on Asian cuisine, cooking techniques and creative flair in spinning modern twists on classic dishes.
Entry submission for Eat List Star is now open from 16 November to 11 December 2015. – December 1, 2015.
