New York leads list of top 100 ‘restaurants for foodies’ in the US
OpenTable’s ‘The 100 Best Restaurants for Foodies in America’ is made up of restaurants that offer ‘culinary magic’. – AFP RelaxNews pic, September 2, 2015.A new list of top 100 restaurants shows that American fare is the preferred cuisine among the foodie elite in the US, and that New York State has a slight edge over its West Coast rival California when it comes to boasting the best dining destinations in the country.
Online reservation site OpenTable released a list of what they call “The 100 Best Restaurants for Foodies in America,” after tabulating the scores of five million restaurant reviews collected from diners over a one year period, ending July 31.
Top of the leaderboard is New York, with 12 addresses that cracked the list, followed by California (11), Texas (9), Minnesota and Oregon (8 each).
Tying with six restaurants are Colorado, Illinois and Pennsylvania, followed by Washington State (5).
According to “chief dining officer” Caroline Potter, the category of “restaurants for foodies” can be defined as bold destinations that are rewriting the rules of fine dining.
"Whether they're reviving forgotten cooking techniques, championing the latest sustainable ingredient, or creating unexpectedly delicious and unique flavour pairings, these restaurants are where you can truly wow the foodies in your life,” she said in a statement.
The results also suggest that American fare is the cuisine of choice among diners with fine palates, as it dominated the list.
However, Asian, Basque, French, Israeli, Mexican, Middle Eastern and Scandinavian restaurants are also well represented. – AFP RelaxNews, September 2, 2015.
