TMI Tries: Maggi Royale Laksa
What do we think of when we talk about instant noodles in Malaysia? Maggi, of course!
It has never failed to keep our bellies full and satisfied with quick fix meals and a taste of home while overseas.
Now, Maggi is getting even better with the introduction of the Johor seafood laksa and Sarawak sambal laksa to their Maggi Royale line!
With authentic flavours that are easy to make, you won't have to travel all the way down south or across the sea to get a taste of these dishes.
When we heard about the new Maggi Royale laksas, we knew we had to get our hands on it. To glam things up, we added a few extra ingredients to each bowl.
Find out the results of our taste test below!
Maggi Royale Johor Seafood Laksa
To our bowl of Johor seafood laksa, we added fresh ingredients like sliced cucumbers, beansprouts (blanched), torch ginger (bunga kantan, a must-have) and mint to garnish.
The original Johor laksa is just as simple so we kept it that way.
The packet of Maggi Royale Johor Seafood Laksa came with a sachet of real belacan and that was where the bulk of the flavours came from.
Flecks of chilli added heat while anchovies added depth to the broth with its fish flavours.
The result was a fragrant, spicy and savoury broth that was just a touch milky. Before we knew it, we'd slurped up most of it!
We also noticed that the noodles were slightly thicker than usual which absorbed the soup and made for a delicious chewy bite.
The star of the bowl had to be the broth. Even without all the extra ingredients thrown in, it would still have been as hearty and warming.
If you had to add one thing, though, we'll go with the sliced cucumber. Its crisp, fresh tasting flavours contrasted well with the spicy, savoury broth.
Maggi Royale Sarawak Sambal Laksa
The Sarawak sambal laksa was a little more elaborate but we thought that it just wouldn't be the same without shredded chicken, sliced egg and prawns.
The broth for the Sarawak laksa was superb as it captured the warmth and depth of the original perfectly.
We got punchy savoury flavours with hints of chicken and prawn all infused with a little bit of tanginess from lime.
While the sliced egg and shredded chicken added extra flavours and padded out the bowl, we're happy just to drink the broth on its own! That's how good it was!
The new Maggi Royale Johor Seafood Laksa and Sarawak Sambal Laksa has made different varieties of laksa easily accessible.
Anyone can now get a taste of these regional dishes from the comforts of their own home, uniting Malaysians through authentic flavours.
If you haven't tried the new Maggi Royale laksa flavours, get it now at your nearest supermarket! – November 30, 2015.
