Two Malaysian restaurants make the cut on list of Asia’s best fine-dining eateries
Two Malaysian restaurants were voted among Asia’s top 25 fine-dining restaurants in TripAdvisor’s annual Traveller’s Choice awards.
Kebaya, a posh Peranakan-themed restaurant in Penang, was ranked 11th while Dining in the Dark in Kuala Lumpur, where diners literally eat in pitch darkness, came in 17th place on the list.
Kebaya is located in Seven Terraces, one of the many quaint and cosy boutique hotels in George Town, Penang.
Incorporating French culinary techniques to present a contemporary take on traditional Nonya dishes, the restaurant received glowing reviews from diners, ranking as the second most popular diner in Penang.
Dining in the Dark, the first of its kind in Malaysia, allows diners to enjoy a sensory adventure to go with their meal.
A four-course menu is served in a completely blackened hall by visually-impaired staff, who will begin each meal with some pre-dinner sensory games.
Topping the list of best fine-dining eateries in Asia was Japan’s Narisawa restaurant.
Similar lists were also compiled for top restaurants in the world.
The awards are based on the millions of reviews from users of the travel site, using an algorithm that takes into account the quality and feedback gathered over a 12-month period.
Other categories include best travel destinations, top hotels, beaches, islands, museums and landmarks.
