Tarawih – the ‘rest’ after a day of fasting
29 Jun 2014 — During Ramadan, Muslims perform the Tarawih prayer, which could last till late evening. Tarawih literally means "to rest" in Arabic, but it is hardly as its name suggests. Long portions of the Quran are recited during which time one stands upright, and performs many cycles of movement such as standing, bowing, prostrating, sitting. After each two cycles, one sits for a brief period of rest, and this is why the prayer is called "rest prayer".
