Do away with termed loans, return full government scholarships, says DAP
DAP today urged Putrajaya to reverse its policy to convert government scholarships to termed loans as it affected students' futures.
DAP Seremban MP Anthony Loke said the policy would see graduates struggle to repay the loans if they did not get work with the government upon graduation.
“Can the government absorb all once they graduate. If they were to work with GLCs (government linked companies), they will have to pay 50% of the loan and if they want to work in the private sector, then will have to repay the loan in full.
“So I would like to request the government to reverse their policy back to the old one,” said Loke at the Parliament lobby this morning.
The Public Service Department (JPA) recently announced the reversal as Putrajaya moves to streamline costs amid lower revenue due to falling oil prices. – March 10, 2016.
