TKUB president Datuk Norizan Ali said the club, representing 191 deputy Umno divisional chiefs throughout the country, unanimously criticised the declaration to topple Najib led by former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad who was also a former Umno president.

Norizan, who is also deputy head of the Kepong Umno division, said the movement to topple Najib who was democratically elected could jeopardise national politics and stability.

"The attempt to topple Najib is a declaration of war against all Umno members and the people who had given their mandate to the government led by Najib.

"The support and pledge of loyalty are based on the fact that the sacred party has been proven to have championed the cause of the race, religion and country from before and forever," he told reporters after a special meeting of the club.

Meanwhile, TKUB deputy president Datuk Seri Abdul Hamid Mohd Nazahar said the move to topple Najib was beyond the framework of the struggle which Dr Mahathir himself had previously supported.

"We consider him (Dr Mahathir) as an elderly person who has contributed much to us, but we hope that the interest of the party would supersede everything else.

"So, we urge Dr Mahathir to come back to the party because he had said himself that when we are at the crossroads, we must give priority to the interest of the party," said Abdul Hamid, who is also deputy head of the Kuantan Umno division.

Asked on the action against Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin and Datuk Seri Mukhriz Mahathir who had also signed the declaration, he said the club placed full trust in the party's Supreme Council to make the best decision.

"We also wish to call on everyone, especially those who had erred, to return to the starting point because history has proven that Umno and Barisan Nasional had developed the nation to what it is today," he said. – Bernama, March 11, 2016.
