Who’s being childish, Shafie asks Ku Nan
Umno vice-president Datuk Seri Shafie Apdal today shrugged off criticism that he was acting "childishly" in supporting the Citizens' Declaration, which aims to remove Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak.
He told reporters when met in Parliament today that his detractors were welcome to say whatever they wished about him.
"Who is the childish one? Let them talk, it's their right to talk," Shafie said.
Earlier today, Umno secretary-general Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor had said Shafie and Datuk Seri Mukhriz Mahathir should be left to their "childish" ways.
Tengku Adnan, also known as Ku Nan, said this when asked whether Umno would take any action against the two leaders over the Citizens' Declaration.
"No comment, no comment. Why should I comment on the people who are childish? Let them become childish lah," Ku Nan said when met at the Parliament lobby.
Mukhriz, the former Kedah menteri besar, was among the Umno leaders who signed the Citizens' Declaration last Friday.
Although not a signatory himself, Shafie had said it was a good move and voiced support for it.
More than 40 leaders signed the 37-point declaration, including former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, former deputy prime minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, opposition party leaders and civil society movements.
Dr Mahathir yesterday said cooperation between the various party leaders was temporary and they could resume their differences once the demands in the declaration were met. – March 10, 2016.
