Martin Guitar launches Dreadnought Junior
Nazareth, Pennsylvania's C.F. Martin & Co celebrates the 100th anniversary year of its iconic Dreadnought guitar design with a scaled-down variation.
The luthiers at Martin Guitars set standards when, in 1916, the Dreadnought changed the shape of the acoustic guitar industry in quite literal terms.
As well as what was then a distinctive, larger-bodied style, the Martin Dreadnought also picked up a number of influential players – Hank Williams, Elvis Presley and John Lennon among them.
Now Martin Guitar is preparing to launch the Dreadnought Junior, a solid wood guitar in the same mould but built to a smaller scale.
At a 24" scale length and with a 16" saddle radius, the 14-fret instrument was first presented at the National Association of Music Merchants expo in 2015, winning plaudits from a number of publications in the process.
"We are very proud to continue to add to the Martin Dreadnought legacy with the introduction of the Dreadnought Junior," said CEO and chairman Chris Martin IV in a prepared statement.
The Dreadnaught Jr offers "a new body size with the same renowned Martin tone and premier quality people have come to expect from Martin Guitar", he continued.
Martin Guitar's website gives the Dreadnought Junior a list price of US$799 (RM3,326). – AFP/Relaxnews, February 2, 2016.
