The head of Ecuador's football federation, Luis Chiriboga, who is under house arrest in connection with the massive FIFA corruption scandal, will resign his post today, his lawyer said.

Attorney Juan Carlos Machuca, speaking on Ecuadoran radio, said yesterday that Chiriboga would submit his resignation to the board of the Ecuadoran Football Federation (FEF).

Chiriboga, 65, who has led the organisation for the past 18 years, has been under house arrest since December and his bank accounts have been frozen in the expanding investigation.

He is one of dozens of football executives across Latin America and around the world who have been implicated in the graft scandal that has rocked the world's most popular sport.
