JDT unbeaten in AFC Cup run

Defending AFC Cup champions Johor Darul Ta'zim (JDT) continued their impressive form in the competition after securing their second straight win in Group H by beating JSW Bengaluru FC from India 1-0 at the Sree Kanteerava Stadium in Bangalore, India, last night.

The win saw JDT remain at the top of Group H with six points from two matches.

In the match that was telecast live on local TV station (TV9), both teams put up an attacking display in search of an early goal but defenders from both sides held their fort well.

Both teams were tied 0-0 at half time but start of the second half was more promising for the Malaysian side and skipper Safiq Rahim showed why he was voted the most valuable player in the competition last season when he struck a brilliant free kick in the 54th minute to ensure JDT collect all three points.

Last season JDT had also beaten JSW Bengaluru FC 2-1 in the qualifying round of the Asian Champions League (ACL) at the Larkin Stadium in Johor Baharu on February 4, 2015.

Meanwhile, in another Group H match played today, Ayeyawady United from Myanmar registered their first win by beating Laos Club side Lao Toyota FC 4-2 at the Youth Training Centre Stadium in Myanmar.

JDT will next face Lao Toyota FC at home while JSW Bengaluru FC head to Myanmar to face Ayeyawady United on March 16. – Bernama, March 10, 2016.
