National cricket association aiming for 3 gold medals at SEA Games
The Malaysian Cricket Association (MCA) is eyeing three gold medals in 2017 SEA Games, as cricket has been included for the first time in the Games.
MCA president, V. Mahinda said the chances of contributing three gold medals to the national tally were high, two from the men's category (Men's 50 over and T20 format) and one from the women's category (T20 format).
"Our vision is for cricket to be a major sport in Malaysia and we have moved up the ladder for a betterment.
"We are also looking forward to host Asean teams at the Kinrara Oval, the Home of Cricket in Malaysia," he told a press conference today.
Mahinda said MCA welcomed corporate sponsors who shared the vision of developing sports in Malaysia to join them on cricket's progress journey over the next two years and to witness Malaysia take its place on the global arena.
"It would be a significant moment for your organisation to be a part of the national team," he added.
Malaysia are currently ranked 23rd among 105 member countries in the International Cricket Council's list and play in the International Cricket Council (ICC) World Cricket League Division 3 tournament.
Malaysia's national cricket team also emerged as the champions of the ICC World Cricket League Division 4 2014 held in Singapore.
They are aiming to win ICC World Cricket League Division 3 in 2017 and Div 2 in 2018 and to qualify as semi-finalists in the Asian Games 2018. – Bernama, March 8, 2016.
