Police to meet JDT in FA Cup quarter-finals
The Royal Malaysian Police professional football club has been drawn to meet 2015 AFC Cup winners Johor Darul Ta'zim, in the quarter-finals of the 2016 FA Cup.
Police qualified for the quarter-finals after upsetting Super League leaders Selangor, with a 2-1 win at Hang Jebat Stadium, Melaka in the third round on Friday, while JDT advanced with a comfortable 4-1 win over Negeri Sembilan.
The draw which took place at Theatrette, Sri Pentas, and broadcasted live on TV9 today, saw two other clubs from the Premier League this season taking on each other, with Sime Darby FC drawn against PKNS FC at home.
PKNS FC marked an upset after defeating Super League heavyweights Felda United FC with a 3-2 victory to advance to the quarterfinals, while Sime Darby recorded a 1-0 victory over Pahang yesterday.
In the remaining two draws, Sabah were paired against Kedah, while Perak is set to meet Kuala Lumpur.
The FA Cup quarter-finals will take place over two legs, with the first matches played on March 18 and 19, and the second on April 1 and 2.
Meanwhile, Pahang FC manager Datuk Che Nasir Salleh said the team's failure to progress in the FA Cup after losing 0-1 to Sime Darby FC was not the end of the road for the squad, which continues to provide stiff challenge in the Super League this season.
He said each obstacle faced by the team was considered a learning process for the players, who were mostly still young.
"We played well, and controlled the game, however the opposing team were lucky in that they got one shot on target and obtained the goal," he said when met by reporters last night.
He said although his team's performance might be a cause of concern for supporters, they should accept the team with open arms, because Pahang FC was in the process of nurturing the players' potentials. – Bernama, March 6, 2016.
