The new Cardboard Camera app enables your phone to take VR photos, photos that are three-dimensional panoramas, which enable the user to 'step' inside the photo and experience it in 3D.

The new app is designed to work with Google Cardboard, Google's virtual reality headset that the user slots their smartphone into.

The panoramic photo is then taken with the Google Cardboard app, and uploaded while the phone is still in the Google Cardboard viewer.

The app gives users the opportunity to go back and revisit their favorite memories by feeling as though they are really there, turning the smartphone into a virtual reality.

Virtual reality can also be explored with Google Street View and Google Earth, both also available from Cardboard.
